When Jon Whitaker starting working at a liquor store for pocket money while attending Baylor University, graduating with a Marketing Degree in 1994, he never thought he would one day own a store himself. After graduating he worked with Republic Distributors as a wine salesman specializing in restaurants for a short period before joining his father-in-law in the healthcare business. After the family divested themselves from the hospital business, he started looking for something to keep him here in Dallas permanently for him and his wife Carrie to raise their 3 boys and stay close to family.

Eric LeBlanc, Jon's partner and Brother-in-law, did not realize that all those fraternity parties he planned and enjoyed while attending LSUS, would actually turn out to be valuable research and development and prepare him for a career in the spirits business.

Both Jon and Eric have grown up working in the various family businesses and the one thing they learned early on is that Customer Service is the key to any successful business.

Our Store at the corner of E. Mockingbird and Abrams, next to Albertson's, is a small family owned liquor store that does not feel like a typical liquor store. Calling it a liquor store just does not feel right to us, so we prefer to refer to our store as a Fine Wine and Spirit shoppe. With its faux wood floors, antique replica desk and china cabinet for the checkout counter area, our store has a homey feeling and, Ginger, the yellow lab at the front door to greet the customers as they come in, immediately let's you know this is not just another liquor store. The atmosphere is welcoming to everyone, especially women who traditionally like to avoid shopping in typical liquor stores, nor is it unusual to find parents with their children, though the children are more interested in Ginger than what their parents are doing and the beginning wine drinker will never feel intimidated by a wine snob. We love wines and spirits and enjoy sharing our personal experiences with many of the wines and spirits we have available.

Kindred Spirits specializes in unique wines from around the world and although we sell some of the more well known wines, we prefer to focus on finding those small production wines and making them available to our customers before the rest of the world discovers them and the price starts going up. It's not unusual to find a bottle of wine for under $20 that scored better than 90 points in the Wine Enthusiast in their store.

If you are looking for a special wine or spirit and can't find it anywhere else, just let us know what it is and we will go the extra mile to get it for you.
